Van Life Challenges with a Dog Our Dog got Hurt
As many of you know, our dog Jessie has travel anxiety. We love having him with us, but traveling in a van with a dog has its own unique challenges. He’s comfy In our Mercedes Sprinter adventure van, but once we start driving, he drools and has a hard time settling in.
We’ve tried all sorts of things, including CBD treats, which left him confused and more anxious. While we were planning our fall and winter travels, Jessie became more reluctant to get in the van and truck, which he usually likes riding in.
We decided to take a more proactive approach and contacted an animal behaviorist and communicator. On this trip, Jessie was doing great until he jumped out of the bunk and caught his claw on a door handle. It was a one-in-a-million accident. Now we’re wondering how all of this will affect our upcoming hiking and travel plans.

After three months on the road, we’re wrapping up our Autumn Van Life Adventure Photography Series.
In this video series, we travel from Lake Powell to the Eastern Sierra to reunite with Matt’s brothers and their families. Here, we join Mark for his first major hike after surviving a lung transplant.
Next, we return to the Oregon Coast for more magnificent photography and wildlife.
To round out our 3-month journey, we travel to the Midwest and the Upper Peninsula, then back home by way of the Badlands in South Dakota, where we explore Matt’s Native American ancestry.
